Veil of Solitude was commissioned in 2024 by Duncan Henry with a consortium of bassoonists including Alice Anderson, Elizabeth Brandt, Elizabeth Ball Crawford, Monica Ellis, Michael Harley, Benjamin Kamins, J. Christopher Marshall, Daniel Matsukawa, Frank Morelli, Kai Rocke, William Short, Maya Stone, Sabrina Stovall, Justin Windschitl, and Fei Xie. The work premiered on April 19th, 2025. Veil of Solitude was inspired by the Robert Schumann song cycle “Dicterliebe” Op. 48 and the sorted emotions of unrequited love.
